edit note: i needed to come back to this for more detail, etc.)

Beyond 05-08-1977, which even for most finicky deadheads is a top 5 1977 show...05-09-1977 is good but not top 5 or 10...

09-03-1977 my favorite show of the year. Half-Step, They Love Each Other, Peggy-O and Music should be on any "best of list"...the second set smokes, Eyes in particular, one of the best versions out there in a year filled with great Eyes (see 10-29 and 11-05 for 2 other top shelf versions)...He's Gone is nice but NFA jams on forever...a great stand alone Truckin' and Terrapin encore...this one is Dick's Pix 15, here is an aud source

06-09-1977 is top five, Winterland huge Help>Slip>Franklin's...Estimated is awesome and the segue into St. Stephen's is ridiculous...

10-29-1977 is top 5 and possibly top 3...Let it Grow, Estimated>Eyes, St. Stephen...no need to go on, check out Grendel's posts on this show...

http://www.archive.org/details/gd1977-10-29.sbd.miller.92085.sbeok.flac16

10-02-1977 is a great show...first set has Dupree Diamond Blues and Casey Jones revivals, second set is extremely fluid...Scarlet>Fire is great, nice fusion into Fire...some of the best mutron pedal licks from Jerry you'll hear...Playin' is quintessential Dead drift...

from there it's a toss-up between the following: 02-26-1977 (debut of estimated, terrapin, but the highlights are sugaree, deal and playin),
06-07-1977 (monster terrapin>morning dew), 10-11-1977 (offical release, "called a 'primal' dead show by Dick Latvala, a bit sloppy but huge slipknot and monster let it grow...,
12-29-1977 (dick's pcks), china>rider revival

03-20-1977 is a pretty damn good show...

03-18-1977 has the only full live Terrapin Station (rest of show is slop city)...

the first week of November offer some nice shows, in particular 11-05-1977 (another dick's picks)

see, that was easy...have fun!

Just a p.s. that Stratocaster is one of the first posters I got recommendations from back in the day, and he has NEVER steered me wrong.

So clearly you've got a lot of listening to do!

I second Grendel's ode to Stratocaster. PurpleGel and Dr. Flashback are others reviewers to follow their recommendations.

I should have mentioned in my other post on this thread that any May show is worthy of downloading. The June 7-9 Winterland shows are worth the price of admission. 9.3.77 is another good pick.

Enjoy your journey through 1977.
